Entitled Essence, the
show presents work by sculptor Gwen Wilkinson (from Knockroe,
near Kiltealy) and painter Christine Mooney (from Wexford).
Gwen’s
sculptures of monkeys are made from wire-netting and the pieces
are then galvanised and painted. Produced after hours of study
at the Natural History Museum in Dublin, her monkeys have a warm
and companionable air about them which expresses the close relationship
between the human and the ape.
Christine’s
paintings show close quartered glimpses of the landscape which
commemorate the seasons of the soul. She draws her inspiration
from everyday experiences of the inner and outer world, and brings
a mystical quality to her work.
The
exhibition was opened by Brian Hand, artist and lecturer at Gorey
School of Art.
