THE NINE STONES ARTISTS
The Nine Stones Artists group was formed in March 2004. Its members are professional artists all of whom are based in the foothills of the Blackstairs Mountains in South County Carlow. The group takes its name from the Nine Stones lookout point on Mount Leinster. The diversity of work and mediums used by the artists is exceptional. There are woodworkers, sculptors and installation artists. There are a number of photographers who each interpret the landscape and its inhabitants in a different manner. The painters use fabrics rich in the hues of the ever-changing pallet of the land.

ANTHONY LYTTLE - Born in Kenya, Anthony came to Ireland in 1973. He studied painting at NCAD and achieved a First Class Honours Degree. He has been a member of the Black Church Print Studio since 1987. In 1994 he was visiting lecturing in Perth, Australia, and he taught at NCAD from 1996-2000. He is the winner of numerous prizes including Eigse Carlow Arts Festival 2004 – Open Submission. His carborundum etchings are at the forefront of modern print techniques.

CATHERINE FITZGERALD – Catherine is both a scientist and an artist. As a scientist she worked in agricultural research in New Zealand before moving to Ireland and undertaking an MA in Fine Art at NCAD. She now combines her knowledge of art and science to produce work which brings the beauty of minute-scale chemistry, and particularly genetics, into the realm of the art world using the new technology of digital imagery.

ANNABEL KÖNIG - Painter and Installation work. Her work has been exhibited in many solo and group shows throughout Ireland.

SUZANNE CLARKE - Suzanne is showing an innovative presentation of all-weather outdoor canvasses which uses the technique of dye sublimation printing. Her works allow the imagery of the large garden, or open landscape, to be brought into the intimacy of the smaller garden.

GWEN WILKINSON - After graduating in Law and History at UCG, Gwen crewed on the international yacht racing circuit before studying photography at Griffith College, Dublin. She served her artistic apprenticeship with the wire sculptor Rupert Till. She has exhibited her sculptures at The Norman Gallery in 2004, and The Watergate Gallery, Bandon, in 2005. Her photographic work has been shown at The Watergate Gallery, Kilkenny, and The Excel Gallery, Tipperary.

MARTIN LYTTLE - A geologist by training, he recently begun to explore digital landscape photography.

JULIA MAGAN
- Her detailed examination of the structure of a small stone reinforces the excitement of research at any level, and her drawing in this show reflects the groups interest in the organic.
